W is for World Building

When writing fantasy, world building is a large part of the process. I love world building. For the ‘Century Isle Chronicles’, I spent 75% of the two years it took me to write Book 1, ‘The Chosen One’, on world building. Now that I have the world built, the other books in the chronicles should not take as long to write.

‘The Chosen One’ covers two of the five islands in my fantasy world; Blooming Island and Century Isle, itself. Only fairies, trolls, ogres, and other magical creatures live on Blooming Island. Meg spends a lot of her convalescing time on the Island before returning to her home Isle.

Other Island’s will be revealed in further books.

  1. I’m out blog hopping from North Carolina on the W day of the alphabet. I have found google research a must in a setting. In my first novel I was able to look up the train schedule from Oxford to London. It’s things like this that build a world for our character’s story. I have been writing about hotels and inns, the architecture and architects, the settings for these significant places in a community. Today was tea at the Washington Duke Inn. Not too late to join me.
