What do you think is the most dangerous fairy tale we tell kids?
Fairy tales are meant to be fun. They are meant to delight. Some even carry lessons. I think the danger comes when we fail to point out to our children what is fantasy and what is reality.
Another danger comes when we use a fairy tale to frighten children into good behavior. In my opinion good behavior should be enforced without the use of, ‘the boogie man’, or some such character.
It can be dangerous to teach our daughter’s to always be chaste, good, and kind and wait for their ‘Knight in Shining Armor’ to come sweep them off their feet. It can also be dangerous to teach our sons that they must always be that ‘Knight in Shining Armor’ waiting to save damsels in distress.
Today’s reality is that we must teach our children to be good, kind, and strong in their on right, not to wait for someone else to rescue them or to rush to someone else’s rescue. Our children must learn to stand strong on their own.
